Jam menjadi hal penting bagi semua orang untuk mengetahui waktu, bahkan mencatat atau membuat kegiatan. Jam juga digunakan sebagai tanda disetiap aktivitas. Dalam bahasa Inggris, waktu diartikan sebagai time.Berikut beberapa cara membaca jam dalam bahasa Inggris.
- Cara membaca jam jika waktunya pas atau jarum panjangnya berada pada posisi angka 12, diibaca o’clock. Contohnya: 1.00= one o’clock 7.00= seven o’clock, dan 11.00= eleven o’clock.
- Cara membaca jam jika waktunya lewat dari jam yang dimaksud yaitu dengan menggunakan “PAST”. Contohnya: It is 1.30= it's a half past one 7.30= a half past seven It is 3.15= a quarter pas three.
- Cara membaca jam jika waktunya kurang dari jam yang dimaksud atau jika jarum panjangnya antara 30-59 menit yaitu dengan menggunakan “TO”. Contohnya: 5.48 AM artinya Jam 6 kurang 12 menit dibaca twelve minutes to six am. It is 5.50 PM artinya jam 6 kurang sepuluh menit dibaca it’s ten to six pm 3.30 PM artinya jam setengah empat dibaca a half to four pm Catatan khusus untuk yang lewat 30 menit, boleh menggunakan past boleh juga menggunakan to.
